Froggy went a courting, and will again in about three weeks from now!

Last year I got a few shots of just exactly what goes on on the woods near my home when the the common frogs spawn in February. I've made a little video to show you and hopefully a more comprehensive will be on your screen this year.

An event such as this is never just about the stars of the show. While the frogs are busy mating there are others preparing for a feast. In particular the humble moorhen who will eat the frogs if he can catch them ( note the one bottom left that Mr. Moorhen hasn't spotted and the one in the next shot that he just missed right under his nose in the next shot) The Herons are much better at catching the frogs and they take Newts too, for a very good reason. Herons nest about the same time and as you can see they have hungry young to feed.

I hope you like this little hint of what's to come and try not to trip over me lying in the undergrowth fully camouflaged next to the pond in the coming weeks. Steve
